A 55th Birthday Blast
On October 10, 2024, we hosted our 55th Anniversary Birthday Bash at SPUR Urban Center, celebrating Enterprise for Youth’s impactful journey since 1969. Embracing the spirit of the ’60s, we created a groovy atmosphere that brought our history to life, with joyful reunions, delicious food, and meaningful connections among alumni, partners, board members, interns, intern hosts, and local supporters.
As attendees arrived, they were transported back to the vibrant 60s, greeted by colorful decor, retro attire, and floral arrangements. The evening kicked off with a silent auction on the second floor, featuring over a hundred items generously donated by our community. Guests enjoyed hors d’oeuvres provided by former board member and BiRite owner Sam Mogannam as they explored a “memory wall” displaying photos from our earliest days to the present. They contributed to our “love tree,” adding anonymous notes of life advice to its branches, and visited intern podiums showcasing our diverse intern experiences.
As the silent auction concluded, guests gathered for speeches by Supervisor Rafael Mandelman (an Enterprise alum!), Enterprise alum Lupe Peña, and San Francisco Unified School District Superintendent Dr. Maria Su. Rafael began by honoring Enterprise for Youth founder Glady Thacher and commending Enterprise’s transformative work in youth engagement. Dr. Su followed with a special announcement, officially declaring October 10 as Enterprise for Youth Day in San Francisco! Lupe Peña shared a heartfelt story about her journey with Enterprise, explaining how her experiences and the skills she gained helped propel her academic and career path, leading to her full-time role at Enterprise—a truly powerful, inspiring moment for all.
After the speeches, guests moved downstairs for more food and fun. Attendees enjoyed cuisine donated by intern hosts, Little Vietnam Cafe and Chinatown Restaurant, while connecting to the groove of a live band and capturing memories in the photobooth. The evening ended with a joyful birthday song and sweet treats of cake and cupcakes—a truly groovy night for all!
Together, our community raised nearly $25,000 during this celebration. We could not have achieved this without our wonderful sponsors and supporters who brought the event to life. We extend deep gratitude to our biggest sponsors: Parnassus Investments, SPUR Urban Center, Citizens Private Bank, INTERSTICE Architects, BiRite Market, Little Vietnam Cafe, Chinatown Restaurant, and Kay Yun. Special thanks to Erich and Chandra Ippen and Merritt Richmond for creating the beautiful ambiance, decorations, and live band. And finally, our heartfelt thanks to the inspiring speakers: Supervisor Rafael Mandelman and Dr. Maria Su.
If you’d like to support our cause and help prepare youth for the future, please consider donating today. Every contribution, large or small, has a meaningful impact, enabling us to provide life-changing experiences and job training for our young people. Thank you once again!
